How can I prevent cavities?

This morning brushing my teeth I found that I had small black dots on both sides of the first few back teeth. The top and bottom of the back right side of my mouth hurts (which what I think is wisdom teeth coming in) and after brushing my teeth I tried getting s toothpick and scraping it off of my teeth just because I oreos and they were about that color. Any tips, please help.
